Ichirô Nakagawa教授の研究室は、細菌の病原性機構に焦点を当てた微生物学的研究を推進しています。特に、溶血性レンサ球菌(GAS)やペルオドントパトゲンであるペルオドモナス・ジンジバリスのfimbriae(線毛)が宿主細胞への接着・侵入に果たす役割を分子レベルで解明しています。また、細菌の遺伝的多様性や系統的関係を解析するためのMLST法の開発など、感染症の疫学的・分子的基盤を築く研究も進めています。
