Professor In-Gyu Choi's research lab specializes in sustainable biomass conversion and biorefinery technologies, focusing on the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass such as *Eucalyptus pellita*. The lab investigates innovative chemical and biological processes—including organosolv lignin extraction, enzymatic and fungal biotransformation of terpenes, and alkaline pretreatment—to enhance the efficiency of producing high-value chemicals, biofuels, and functional oligosaccharides. A key research direction involves understanding and manipulating biomass recalcitrance through structural modification of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The lab also explores the role of microbial and fungal biocatalysts in selective transformation of natural compounds.
