Professor Jae Wook Lee's research lab focuses on regenerative medicine and immunotherapy, with a strong emphasis on mesenchymal stem cell therapy for lung injury and stroma-targeted cancer immunotherapy. The lab investigates mechanisms of tissue repair, including alveolar fluid clearance and antimicrobial activity, as well as the role of tumor microenvironment components like fibroblast activation protein (FAP) in cancer immunity. Their work bridges molecular biology, stem cell biology, and translational immunology to develop novel therapeutic strategies for inflammatory and malignant diseases.

Murine studies have shown that immunologic targeting of the tumor vasculature, a key element of the tumor stroma, can lead to protective immunity in the absence of significant pathology. Iterative algorithms, like gradient descent, are common tools for solving a variety of problems, such as model fitting. For this reason, there is interest in creating differentially private versions of them. However, their conversion to differentially private algorithms is often naive. For instance, a fixed number of iterations are chosen, the privacy budget is split evenly among them, and at each iteration, parameters are updated with a noisy gradient.
