Professor Jae Yun Song's research lab focuses on gynecological oncology, with a strong emphasis on the molecular pathology and biomarker discovery in endometrial and cervical cancers. The lab investigates protein expression profiles, immunohistochemical markers, and potential diagnostic and prognostic factors such as osteopontin and transcription factors like hepatocyte nuclear factor-1β. Additionally, the lab explores clinical outcomes and minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as single-port robotic surgery, in gynecologic cancer patients. Their work bridges basic molecular research with clinical applications to improve early detection, diagnosis, and treatment strategies.

Endometrial clear cell carcinomas (ECCCs) are considered to be Type II endometrial carcinomas, like uterine serous adenocarcinoma (SCA), and therefore aggressive clinical management is indicated. However, according to the limited clinical, immunohistochemical, and molecular data available in the literature, ECCCs show overlapping features of SCA and endometrioid adenocarcinomas. Therefore, questions regarding their designation as the Type II carcinomas have been raised. We performed immunohistoc
Cervical cancer is the second most common gynecological cancer among Korean women. While nationwide screening program has developed, the pathogenesis of cervical cancer is unknown. The aim of this study was to compare the protein expression profiles between cervical squamous carcinomas and normal cervical tissues in order to identify proteins that are related to the cancer. Three cervical cancer tissue samples and three normal cervical tissue samples were obtained and protein expression was comp
Osteopontin may have a potential use as a diagnostic factor for cervical cancer and osteopontin expression is closely correlated with carcinogenesis and invasion of cervical cancer.
Our study demonstrated that the SPRS had comparable surgical outcomes when compared to the SPLS. Therefore, the SPRS should be considered a feasible and safe option for gynecologic patients.
Current ASCCP guidelines recommend repeat cytology 12 months after HPV-positive results in women aged 21-24 years with either atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) or a low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL). The purpose of this study was to validate an algorithm in such women with ASCUS or LSIL. A multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out at three academic hospitals involving 40,847 Korean women who underwent cervical cancer screening with cytology and H
Appropriate treatment of depressed mood, as well as adequate treatment for advanced gynecological cancer patients, those with numerous CTx., and those with post-CTx. side effects, may contribute to reducing the risk of cancer aggravation.
