Professor Jee Hyang Jeong's research lab focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms underlying cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The lab investigates epigenetic regulation of genes such as heme oxygenase-1 (HMOX1) in AD pathogenesis, exploring their potential as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. It also examines the impact of cognitive interventions—like GCI and HCI—on brain plasticity and cognitive improvement in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). Additionally, the lab explores neurological complications of environmental stressors, such as high-altitude exposure, including pallidal lesions linked to acute mountain sickness.

The GCI and HCI resulted in cognitive improvements in aMCI. An enhanced brain plasticity may be a component of the mechanism underpinning the cognitive improvements associated with the cognitive interventions.
