Professor Jeongshin An's research lab focuses on the intricate relationship between the human microbiome—particularly gut and blood microbiota—and breast cancer progression, treatment response, and prognosis. The lab investigates microbial metabolites, extracellular vesicles (EVs), and specific bacterial communities such as the estrobolome and *Klebsiella* spp. to uncover their roles in hormone therapy resistance and disease recurrence. Using multi-omics approaches, including 16S rRNA sequencing and machine learning, the lab develops microbiome-based diagnostic and predictive biomarkers for early detection and personalized treatment of breast cancer.
