Professor Jihye Choi's research lab specializes in veterinary diagnostic imaging, with a focus on advancing ultrasound-based techniques for improved abdominal organ assessment in small animals. The lab investigates novel elastography methods—such as strain and shear wave elastography—to enhance tissue characterization and improve diagnostic accuracy in conditions affecting the liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, and other abdominal organs. Research also extends to optimizing imaging protocols and evaluating interventions that affect renal function and contrast media safety in dogs. The lab emphasizes clinical applicability, reproducibility, and the development of reliable, breed-specific diagnostic criteria.

Despite being in a nascent stage with further modification needed, web-based surveillance systems have evolved to complement traditional national surveillance systems. This review highlights ways in which the strengths of existing systems can be maintained and weaknesses alleviated to implement optimal web surveillance systems.
CAD is more useful for less experienced readers. Combining CAD with breast US led to improved specificity for both experienced and inexperienced readers.
Abstract Cholesteric liquid crystal elastomers (CLCEs) are unique anisotropic rubbers that can change their structural color in response to various stimuli such as heat, chemicals, electric fields, and mechanical stress. Methods such as anisotropic deswelling and surface alignment have been adopted to prepare CLCEs; however, they have limitations in creating spatially controlled CLCE geometries. In this work, a direct ink writing (DIW)‐based 3D‐printable CLCE that can be prepared by extruding vi
Well-designed photothermal nanostructures have attracted many scientists pursuing a better means to accurately diagnose cancer and assess the efficacy of treatment. Recently, gold-based nanostructures (nanoshells, nanorods and nanocages) have enabled photothermal ablation of cancer cells with near-infrared (NIR) light without damaging normal human tissues and in particular, animal studies and early clinical testing showed the great promise for these materials. In this review article, we first di
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has been disrupting the daily lives of people across the world, causing a major concern for psychological well-being in children. This study aimed to examine (1) how life satisfaction and its potential predictors have been affected by the pandemic among school-aged children in Korea, and (2) which factors would predict their life satisfaction during the pandemic. We surveyed 166 fourth-graders in the Seoul metropolitan area to assess their psychological well-being an
Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are known to sensitize cancer cells to radiation therapy (RT) by increasing the deposition of ionizing energy in their immediate vicinity. However, this process of dose enhancement is challenging to monitor because it is heterogeneous at the sub-cellular scale. Furthermore, radiation damage is primarily mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS) that are produced following water radiolysis. Here, radiation-responsive PEGylated gold nanoparticles (RPAuNPs) were synthesiz
Ultrasonography is a sensitive and specific screening method for assessing the adrenal glands. The upper limit of the normal adrenal gland width is used as 7.5 mm. It is not known if adrenal gland width remains consistent with body weight. A reliable criterion of adrenal gland width in small breed dogs should be established. Small breed dogs with body weights of less than 10 kg were divided into two groups: 189 normal dogs and 22 dogs with pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (PDH). A retros
Digital technologies are being increasingly utilized in healthcare to provide pertinent and timely information for primary prevention, such as vaccination. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review to describe and assess current digital health interventions to promote HPV vaccination among adolescents and parents of adolescents, and to recommend directions for future interventions of this kind. Using appropriate medical subject headings and keywords, we searched multiple databases to ident
Standard ultrasonography is often insensitive for distinguishing normal vs. diseased states for canine abdominal organs. Ultrasonographic elastography is a new technique that is becoming increasingly available and may help to improve sensitivity. This study evaluated the feasibility, repeatability, and reproducibility of strain elastography of the liver, spleen, kidneys, and prostate in healthy dogs and described the elasticity of each organ using strain values and strain ratios. The reproducibi
Emerging evidence suggests that the mammalian target of rapamcyin (mTOR) pathway is associated with radio-resistance in cancer treatment. We hypothesised that phosphorylated ribosomal S6 kinase 1 (p-S6K1), a major downstream regulator of the mTOR pathway, may play a role in predicting radio-resistance. Therefore, we evaluated the association of p-S6K1 expression with radio-resistance in breast cancer cell lines and patients. During median follow-up of 33 (range, 0.1-111) months for 1770 primary
Shear wave elastography (SWE) induces lateral shear wave through acoustic pulses of the transducer and evaluates tissue stiffness quantitatively. This study was performed to evaluate feasibility and reproducibility of two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D SWE) for evaluation of tissue stiffness and to examine technical factors that affect shear wave speed (SWS) measurements in adult dogs. Nine healthy, 2 year-old, adult beagles with the median weight of 9.8 kg were included. In this prospe
