Professor Jin Seok Heo's research lab specializes in computational and clinical oncology, focusing on developing predictive models and artificial intelligence tools to improve outcomes in pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers. The lab integrates multi-center clinical data with advanced statistical and machine learning methods to build decision-support systems for surgical treatment planning and prognosis prediction. Key research directions include the development of nomograms for risk stratification and the application of AI in enhancing disease-free survival prediction after pancreatic cancer surgery.

A nomogram predicting malignancy in patients with BD-IPMN was constructed using a logistic regression model. This nomogram may be useful in identifying patients at risk of malignancy and for selecting optimal treatment methods. This is the first artificial-intelligence study with multi-center registry data to predict disease-free survival after the surgery of pancreatic cancer. The findings of this methodological study demonstrate that artificial intelligence can provide a valuable decision-support system for treating patients undergoing surgery for pancreatic cancer. However, at present, further studies are needed to demonstrate the actual benefit of applying machine learning algorithms in clinical practice.
