Professor Joon Hak Oh's research lab specializes in the design, synthesis, and application of advanced organic semiconductors for next-generation electronic devices. The lab focuses on developing high-performance n-channel organic field-effect transistors and phototransistors using tailored molecular structures such as naphthalene tetracarboxylic diimides (NDIs) and perylene diimides (PDIs), with an emphasis on structural control, charge transport optimization, and solution-processable fabrication. Key research directions include the creation of nano/microwires and chiral supramolecular architectures for flexible, wearable, and bioelectronic applications, with a strong focus on stability, mobility, and real-time sensing capabilities. The lab also explores the structure–property relationships in organic semiconductors to enable practical deployment in point-of-care diagnostics and sustainable electronics.

Abstract Core‐chlorinated naphthalene tetracarboxylic diimides (NDIs) with fluoroalkyl chains are synthesized and employed for n‐channel organic thin‐film transistors (OTFTs). Structural analyses of the single crystals and thin films are performed and their charge‐transport behavior is investigated in terms of structure–property relationships. NDIs with two chlorine substituents are shown to exhibit a herringbone structure with a very close π‐plane distance (3.3–3.4 Å), a large π‐stack overlap (
The development of solution-processable, high-performance n-channel organic semiconductors is crucial to realizing low-cost, all-organic complementary circuits. Single-crystalline organic semiconductor nano/microwires (NWs/MWs) have great potential as active materials in solution-formed high-performance transistors. However, the technology to integrate these elements into functional networks with controlled alignment and density lags far behind their inorganic counterparts. Here, we report a sol
Abstract The photoelectronic characteristics of single‐crystalline nanowire organic phototransistors (NW‐OPTs) are studied using a high‐performance n‐channel organic semiconductor, N , N′ ‐bis(2‐phenylethyl)‐perylene‐3,4:9,10‐tetracarboxylic diimide (BPE‐PTCDI), as the photoactive layer. The optoelectronic performances of the NW‐OPTs are analyzed by way of their current–voltage ( I – V ) characteristics on irradiation at different wavelengths, and comparison with corresponding thin‐film organic
Bioelectronics for healthcare that monitor the health information on users in real time have stepped into the limelight as crucial electronic devices for the future due to the increased demand for "point-of-care" testing, which is defined as medical diagnostic testing at the time and place of patient care. In contrast to traditional diagnostic testing, which is generally conducted at medical institutions with diagnostic instruments and requires a long time for specimen analysis, point-of-care te
Abstract Recent interest in flexible electronics has led to a paradigm shift in consumer electronics, and the emergent development of stretchable and wearable electronics is opening a new spectrum of ubiquitous applications for electronics. Organic electronic materials, such as π‐conjugated small molecules and polymers, are highly suitable for use in low‐cost wearable electronic devices, and their charge‐carrier mobilities have now exceeded that of amorphous silicon. However, their commercializa
Chiral supramolecular nanostructures with optoelectronic functions are expected to play a central role in many scientific and technological fields but their practical use remains in its infancy. Here, this paper reports photoconductive chiral organic semiconductors (OSCs) based on perylene diimides with the highest electron mobility among the chiral OSCs and investigates the structure and optoelectronic properties of their homochiral and heterochiral supramolecular assemblies from bottom-up self
Highly efficient tin-based perovskite solar cells are prepared by introducing the formamidinium thiocyanate additive into quasi-two-dimensional tin-based perovskites.
The thin-film transistor characteristics of n-channel organic semiconductor, N,N′-bis(2,2,3,3,4,4,4-heptafluorobutyl)-perylene tetracarboxylic diimide, are described. The slip-stacked face-to-face molecular packing allows a very dense parallel arrangement of the molecules, leading to field-effect mobility as high as 0.72cm2V−1s−1. The mobility only slightly decreased after exposure to air and remained stable for more than 50days. Our results reveal that molecular packing effects such as close st
Highly flexible organic nanofiber phototransistors are fabricated on a highly flexible poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) textile/poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) composite substrate. Organic nanofibers are obtained by electrospinning, using a mixture of poly(3,3 ″′ ‐didodecylquarterthiophene) (PQT‐12) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as the semiconducting polymer and processing aid, respectively. PDMS is used as both a buffer layer for flattening the PET textile and a dielectric layer in the bottom‐
Organic neuromorphic devices and sensors that mimic the functions of chemical synapses and sensory perception in humans have received much attention for next-generation computing and integrated logic circuits. Despite recent advances, organic artificial synapses capable of detecting both neurotransmitters in liquid environments and light are not reported. Herein, inspired by hippocampal synapses, a dual-gate organic synaptic transistor platform with a photoconductive polymer semiconductor, a fer
Multifunctional hydrogels with properties including transparency, flexibility, self-healing, and high electrical conductivity have attracted great attention for their potential application to soft electronic devices. The presence of an ionic species can make hydrogels conductive in nature. However, the conductivity of hydrogels is often influenced by temperature, due to the change of the internal nano/microscopic structure when temperature reaches the sol-gel phase transition temperature. Abstract Narrow‐bandgap mixed Pb‐Sn perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have great feasibility for constructing efficient all‐perovskite tandem solar cells, in combination with wide‐bandgap lead halide PSCs. However, the power conversion efficiency of mixed Pb‐Sn PSCs still lags behind lead‐based counterparts. Here, additive engineering using ionic imidazolium tetrafluoroborate (IMBF 4 ) is proposed, where the imidazolium (IM) cation and tetrafluoroborate (BF 4 ) anion efficiently passivate defects at
Intermolecular interactions have a critical role in determining the molecular packing and orientation of conjugated polymers and organic molecules, leading to significant changes in their electrical and optical properties. Herein, we investigated the effects of intermolecular interactions of electron-donating small molecules on their structural, optical, and electrical properties, as well as on their performance in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and organic photovoltaics (OPVs). A seri
The effects of the interplay between energetic and kinetic factors on the air stability of n-channel organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) were studied using two perylene diimide (PDI) compounds with distinctly different lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) levels. On the basis of the empirical energy level windows, one compound (N,N′-bis(2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5,5-nonafluoropentyl)-3,4:9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide (PDI-F): −3.84 eV) is at the onset region for air stability, whereas the other
