Professor Jung Yoon Choi's research spans molecular oncology, particularly in pediatric brain tumors such as medulloblastoma and retinoblastoma, with a focus on genomic risk stratification, treatment response, and long-term outcomes. Her work also extends to biomedical materials, including stimuli-responsive polymers like pentafluorophenyl end-capped PEG, which exhibit tunable phase transitions based on dissolved gases. Additionally, she investigates vaccine safety, especially serious adverse events following mRNA-based COVID-19 immunization, using pharmacovigilance data and predictive modeling. Her research integrates clinical oncology, molecular diagnostics, and translational biomedicine to improve patient outcomes and safety in pediatric and adult populations.

Pentafluorophenyl end-capped poly(ethylene glycol) (PF-PEG-PF) aqueous solution shows a lower critical solution temperature (LCST), which is sensitive to the type of gases dissolved in the solution. LCST increases from 24.5 to 26 °C when dissolved carbon dioxide is replaced by oxygen. Retinoblastoma usually recurs within the first few years after treatment completion. We report a rare case of very late relapse in a 6-month-old girl who was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma. Evidence of humoral rejection, as demonstrated by C4d(PTC) deposition, was concurrently present in significant portions of post-transplant IgAN biopsy specimens and was associated with more rapid deterioration of renal function. These results suggest that C4d(PTC) positivity needs to be determined at the time of biopsy even in cases of post-transplant glomerulonephritis and immunosuppression may need to be modified accordingly.

Wilms tumor is the most common renal malignancy in children. Most of Wilms tumor recurrences occur within 2 years of the first diagnosis. Relapse after 5 years after the first diagnosis is called "late recurrence" and is rare in Wilms tumor. There are few case reports or small series of late recurrence of Wilms tumor. This is the first whole-exome sequencing-based analysis of delayed MTX clearance in pediatric patients with ALL. <i>ENG</i> rs1800956 and <i>PKD1L2</i> rs16954698 were found to be potentially influential variants associated with delayed MTX clearance. These findings provide insights into HD-MTX-induced nephrotoxicity and may contribute to reducing adverse reactions through treatment modification.
