杉山順二教授の研究室は、セルロースの結晶構造とその多形性に注目し、特に藻類由来セルロースの二つの結晶相の電子線回折を用いた詳細な解析を進めています。また、赤外分光法と電子回折を組み合わせた手法で天然セルロースの多形性を解明し、セルロースの構造と性質の関係を解明しています。さらに、磁場を用いたセルロース微結晶の配向制御技術の開発を通じて、セルロースを基盤とするナノ構造材料の設計に貢献しています。
