Ueda教授の研究室は、大気汚染物質、特に微小粒子状物質(PM2.5やPM10)および砂塵(アジアダスト)の健康影響に注目し、短期的・長期的な暴露が呼吸器疾患や循環器疾患に与える影響を疫学的手法を用いて解明しています。特に、子供のアレルギー性喘息の入院リスクや、緊急救急搬送の増加と大気質の関連を、レーザー観測(リモートセンシング)と時間別ケースクロスオーバー解析を組み合わせた独自のアプローチで分析しています。また、PMの化学成分や大気中での上層大気を通過する経路の違いが健康影響に与える影響についても探求しています。

Asian Dust (AD) particles transported from source areas contribute to sharp increases in coarse particles in Japan. Long-term exposure to air pollution, especially for PM<sub>10</sub> and SO<sub>2</sub> was associated with self-reported high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and diabetes in subjects of TCS.
