Monde教授の研究室は、主に天然物の構造解明と生合成機構の解明を柱としています。特に、バイオロジカルに重要な天然化合物、たとえばアリルイソチオシネート系のフィトアレキシンやクロロール化オリシノール誘導体の生合成経路を解明してきました。また、赤外円二色性(VCD)を用いたキラル分子の絶対配置決定や糖の異性体状態の精密な解析にも貢献しています。これらの研究は、天然物の立体化学的特徴を高感度で解明するための理論的・実験的基盤を提供しています。

Seven chlorine-containing orcinol derivatives (2-8) and orcinol (9) have been isolated from diseased bulbs of the edible lily Lilium maximowiczii, and their structures have been elucidated. The vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) technique was applied to carbohydrates and produced a glycoside characteristic VCD band, which was named the "glycoside band." It confirmed that this vibration was related to anomeric configurations of carbohydrates in the case of the d-series by means of isotope substitution.
