Plasma miRNAs had distinct patterns from synovial fluid miRNAs, which appeared to originate from synovial tissue. Plasma miR-132 well differentiated HCs from patients with RA or OA, while synovial fluid miRNAs differentiated RA and OA. Furthermore, plasma miRNAs correlated with the disease activities of RA. Thus, synovial fluid and plasma miRNAs have potential as diagnostic biomarkers for RA and OA and as a tool for the analysis of their pathogenesis.
These results suggest that miR-451 suppresses neutrophil chemotaxis via p38 MAPK and is a potential target in the treatment of RA.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous small noncoding RNAs regulating the activities of target mRNAs and cellular processes. Although no miRNA has been reported to play an important role in the regulation of fracture healing, several miRNAs control key elements in tissue repair processes such as inflammation, hypoxia response, angiogenesis, stem cell differentiation, osteogenesis, and chondrogenesis. We compared the plasma concentrations of 134 miRNAs in 4 patients with trochanteric fractures and 4
Bone erosions were more frequently found in EORA. Clinical remission at 1 or 2 years was not enough to protect bone erosions in the ACPA-positive EORA patients. Optimal treatment strategies preventing radiological damage should be considered for EORA.
The prevalence of blood parasites was investigated in 701 Japanese wild birds for 13 years from January, 1988 to March, 2001. Most of the injured or sick birds were caught in the suburbs of Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture and brought to the zoo for clinical care. Among all the birds examined, 10.6% were infected with hematozoa belonging to three genera as Plasmodium (1.7% of the samples), Haemoproteus (5.1% of the samples) and Leucocytozoon (4.6% of the samples), and two birds (0.29% of the samples)
To determine the potential contribution of intermittent low-dose methotrexate (MTX) treatment (2-8 mg/week) to postoperative complications, we studied 122 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who had 201 surgical procedures. The patients with treatment with MTX were allocated to two groups: those who continued MTX (group A, 77 procedures) and those who discontinued MTX more than 1 week (group B, 21 procedures). The patients who had no treatment with MTX were allocated to group C (103 procedur
Phytoalexins play a pivotal role in plant-pathogen interactions. Whereas leaves of rice (Oryza sativa) cultivar Nipponbare predominantly accumulated the phytoalexin sakuranetin after jasmonic acid induction, only very low amounts accumulated in the Kasalath cultivar. Sakuranetin is synthesized from naringenin by naringenin 7-O-methyltransferase (NOMT). Analysis of chromosome segment substitution lines and backcrossed inbred lines suggested that NOMT is the underlying cause of differential phytoa
Three dog heartworms (Dirofilaria immitis) were detected in the lumen of the right cardiac ventriculus and of the pulmonary artery of a captive female snow leopard (Uncia uncia) that died of pancreatic carcinoma at a zoo in Japan. Neither clinical respiratory nor circulatory symptoms caused by the heartworm infection were observed. The filarial worms were identified as D. immitis from the morphologic characteristics of the esophagus, the presence of faint longitudinal ridges on the cuticular sur
LSD1 metabolically regulates osteoclastogenesis in an energy-demanding inflammatory environment. These findings provide potential new therapeutic strategies targeting osteoclasts in the management of inflammatory arthritis, including in patients with RA.

In this paper, focusing on visual management (VM) technology as an effective vehicle of continuous improvement activities, Kaizen case-base and its effectiveness are discussed by following three steps. For the first step, a framework of a Kaizen case transfer is placed to develop for effective VM development and transfer. For the second step, an example of VM case-base is constructed by using VM cases collected through a literature survey and factory investigations. For the third step, performan
