Professor Kwang-Sig Lee's research lab specializes in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to preventive medicine and early disease diagnosis, with a strong focus on cardiovascular, endocrine, and mental health conditions. The lab integrates epidemiological, sociocultural, and biopsychosocial factors to develop predictive models for disorders such as temporomandibular disorders, thyroid disease, and depression. A key emphasis is on leveraging wearable technology and ECG-based deep learning for early detection of asymptomatic conditions like atrial fibrillation, particularly in the context of public health challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The lab also advances population-level cancer and chronic disease control strategies through primary prevention and data-driven public health policies.

GERD is more important than periodontitis for predicting and preventing preterm birth. For preventing preterm birth, preventive measures for hypertension, GERD and diabetes mellitus would be needed alongside the promotion of effective BMI management and appropriate progesterone and calcium-channel-blocker medications.

This is the first machine-learning study with 64 clinical and sonographic markers for the prediction of newborns' BMI.
