Professor Kyu Ha Huh's research lab specializes in clinical and translational neuroscience, with a focus on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying epilepsy and cognitive function. The lab investigates brain network dynamics using intracranial EEG and neuropsychological assessments, particularly in patients with intractable epilepsy. It also explores immunological biomarkers in organ transplantation, especially angiotensin II receptor autoantibodies and their role in transplant rejection. The lab integrates neurophysiological, cognitive, and immunological approaches to improve patient outcomes in neurological and transplant medicine.

Pretransplant AT1R-Abs is an independent risk factor for AR, especially acute cellular rejection, and is possibly associated with the risk of antibody-mediated injury. Pretransplant assessment of AT1R-Abs may be useful for stratifying immunologic risks.
We studied spectral components of human hippocampal EEG in relation to behavioral status in 19 patients with intractable complex partial seizures who had depth electrodes implanted into the anterior hippocampi as a part of their preoperative evaluations. We investigated the integrity of attentional mechanisms following unilateral intracarotid amobarbital injection in 23 patients undergoing preoperative evaluation for epilepsy surgery. Performance for ipsilateral hand-button response to a quasi-random strobe flash was markedly altered following unilateral amobarbital injection as evidenced by decreased correct responses and increased perseverative errors. The increase in perseverations was inversely correlated with subsequent memory performance.

Mycophenolic acid (MPA) is one of many effective immunosuppressive drugs. However, MPA can induce cellular toxicity and impair cellular function in β-cells. D-FRV/R-BW and donor age have significant impact on graft function. D-FRV/R-BW can be measured ahead of surgery. Therefore, measuring the D-FRV is useful to select a more optimal donor kidney among otherwise similar candidates during preoperative evaluation to improve posttransplant graft function.
