北日本の河川・汽水域を対象とした魚類の生態・進化・環境応答を、分子生物学的手法(環境DNA)、フィールド調査、形態・遺伝解析を統合して研究しています。特に、スズキ目やスズカレイ目魚類の移動行動、生息環境への適応、自然災害や人為的要因による影響の解明を柱としています。近年は津波後の生態的・遺伝的変化や、ダム・水門などの構造物が魚類に与える影響にも注力しています。
