Marty Kwok-Shing Wong教授の研究室は、顕著な環境適応能力を示す魚類の osmoregulation(浸透圧制御)機構に焦点を当て、特に海水への移行に伴うイオンバランスの維持やホルモン・酵素系の進化的・分子的基盤を解明しています。eDNAを用いた環境モニタリング技術の向上や、カリックレイン・キニン系やアンジオテンシン系の進化的展開についても、系統解析と分子生物学的手法を融合して研究を推進しています。特に、ナトリウムの非浸透的結合分子が塩濃度変動に耐える仕組みとして果たす役割の解明は、顕著な新規分野の開拓です。

Since cortisol is an important hormone for seawater acclimation as well as for general stress in teleosts, emergency and osmotic challenges could have been evolved in parallel and resulted in the overlapped signaling networks. Our results revealed important interactions among transcription factors and offer a multifactorial perspective of genes involved in seawater acclimation.
By integrating gene expression and phylogenetic results, we propose that the major NKA α-subunits for SW acclimation were not ancestrally selected, but rather were flexibly determined in lineage-specific fashion in teleosts.
