Hirayama教授の研究室は、リチウムイオン二次電池の電極・電解質界面における原子レベルの構造変化を、エピタキシャル薄膜とX線・中性子反射率・表面X線回折を用いて直接観察することで、高功率・長寿命電池の材料設計に貢献しています。特に、LiMn₂O₄、LLZO、Li₄Ti₅O₁₂、LiFePO₄などの酸化物電極材料を基板上に高品質に成長させ、界面反応の可逆性やイオン伝導性の起源を解明しています。

Gaining a thorough understanding of the reactions on the electrode surfaces of lithium batteries is critical for designing new electrode materials suitable for high-power, long-life operation. Epitaxial thin films of Al-doped Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) with a cubic garnet-type structure were successfully synthesized using pulsed laser deposition to investigate the lithium ion conduction in grains.
