Sugimoto教授の研究室は、唾液を用いたがんや神経変性疾患の早期診断を目的としたメタボロミクス技術の応用に注力しています。特に、非侵襲的で安価なバイオマーカーの同定をめざし、唾液中の代謝物(特にポリアミンを含む)の定量的解析をCapillary Electrophoresis-MSを用いて行っています。慢性膵炎やがん患者との比較から、早期がんのスクリーニングに適したバイオマーカーの発見を目指しています。
