Saito教授の研究室は、ヒト幹細胞を用いた血液細胞の機能的分化メカニズムの解明と、神経炎症性疾患・筋萎縮症などの神経筋疾患の病態解明を柱としています。特に、iPS細胞を用いたニューロン・筋接合部(NMJ)の3次元自己組織化モデル構築や、CIAS1遺伝子のモザイク性が関与する自己炎症性疾患の病態解明に貢献しています。臨床応用に向けた幹細胞由来の機能的細胞の生成系構築と、疾患モデルを用いた薬剤スクリーニングも重要な研究テーマです。
