Professor Mi Kyung Kim's research lab focuses on the epidemiological and nutritional determinants of chronic diseases, particularly cancer and metabolic syndrome, with a strong emphasis on dietary patterns, micronutrients, and functional foods in Asian populations. The lab conducts large-scale cohort and case-control studies to investigate how diet, including specific food items like seaweed and dietary patterns such as 'healthy,' 'traditional,' and 'Western,' influence the risk of gastric, colorectal, and breast cancers. Additionally, the lab explores the role of micronutrients like vitamin C in long-term health outcomes, including blood pressure regulation, and contributes to translational cancer immunotherapy research through oncolytic virus studies. In a double-blinded randomized controlled trial, we investigated the long-term effect of vitamin C supplementation on blood pressure. A total of 439 Japanese subjects with atrophic gastritis initially participated in the trial using vitamin C and beta-carotene to prevent gastric cancer.
