Sugiura教授の研究室では、脳の記憶と意識の神経基盤を解明するため、特に個人的になじみのある場所や対象の認識にかかわる脳機能を、fMRIを用いた行動神経科学的手法で解明しています。特に後頭内側前頭外側皮質(PCC)の機能的分野と、空間的記憶と非空間的記憶の神経機構の違いに注目しています。また、信念や信仰の認知神経科学的基盤についても、感情と認知の統合的プロセスとしての「信じる」プロセスのモデル化を進めています。
