Highly efficient quantum-dot-sensitized solar cell is fabricated using ca. 2-3 nm sized perovskite (CH(3)NH(3))PbI(3) nanocrystal. Spin-coating of the equimolar mixture of CH(3)NH(3)I and PbI(2) in γ-butyrolactone solution (perovskite precursor solution) leads to (CH(3)NH(3))PbI(3) quantum dots (QDs) on nanocrystalline TiO(2) surface. By electrochemical junction with iodide/iodine based redox electrolyte, perovskite QD-sensitized 3.6 μm-thick TiO(2) film shows maximum external quantum efficiency
Perovskite solar cells based on organometal halides represent an emerging photovoltaic technology. Perovskite solar cells stem from dye-sensitized solar cells. In a liquid-based dye-sensitized solar cell structure, the adsorption of methylammonium lead halide perovskite on a nanocrystalline TiO2 surface produces a photocurrent with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of around 3–4%, as first discovered in 2009. The PCE was doubled after 2 years by optimizing the perovskite coating conditions. Ho
Although power conversion efficiency (PCE) of state‐of‐the‐art perovskite solar cells has already exceeded 20%, photo‐ and/or moisture instability of organolead halide perovskite have prevented further commercialization. In particular, the underlying weak interaction of organic cations with surrounding iodides due to eight equivalent orientations of the organic cation along the body diagonals in unit cell and chemically non‐inertness of organic cation result in photo‐ and moisture instability of
Recently, perovskite CH3NH3PbI3 sensitizer has attracted great attention due to its superb light-harvesting characteristics. Organometallic or organic materials were mostly used as sensitizers for solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells at early stages. Inorganic nanocrystals have lately received attention as light harvesters due to their high light-absorbing properties. Metal chalcogenides have been investigated with solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells; however, the best power conversion effi
Crack-free nanocrystalline rutile TiO2 films with thicknesses of up to 12 μm were prepared and characterized in connection with their application to dye-sensitized solar cells. The photoelectrochemical properties of the rutile-based solar cell are compared with those of the anatase-based cell. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) shows that the rutile films consist of homogeneously distributed rod-shaped particles with an average dimension of 20 × 80 nm. Both the thickness and the morphology of th
Perovskite solar cells with power conversion efficiencies exceeding 16% at AM 1.5 G one sun illumination are developed using the black polymorph of formamidnium lead iodide, HC(NH2)2 PbI3 . Compared with CH3 NH3 PbI3 , HC(NH2 )2 PbI3 extends its absoprtion to 840 nm and shows no phase transition between 296 and 423 K. Moreover, a solar cell based on HC(NH2 )2 PbI3 exhibits photostability and little I-V hysteresis.
Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite materials are receiving increasing attention and becoming star materials on account of their unique and intriguing optical and electrical properties, such as high molar extinction coefficient, wide absorption spectrum, low excitonic binding energy, ambipolar carrier transport property, long carrier diffusion length, and high defects tolerance. Although a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of up to 22.7% is certified for perovskite solar cells (PSCs), it is
Chemical interaction at a heterojunction interface induced by an appropriate chemical linker is of crucial importance for high efficiency, hysteresis-less, and stable perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Effective interface engineering in PSCs is reported via a multifunctional chemical linker of 4-imidazoleacetic acid hydrochloride (ImAcHCl) that can provide a chemical bridge between SnO2 and perovskite through an ester bond with SnO2 via esterification reaction and an electrosta
Because interfacial nonradiative recombination (NRR) has a significant influence on device performance, the minimization of interfacial NRR losses through interface engineering especially for perovskite-related interfaces is key to achieving efficient, stable, and hysteresis-free perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In light of important contributions of interface engineering to rapid development of PSCs, a systematic investigation and analysis on the latest research advancements on interface engineer
Current-density-voltage (J-V) hysteresis in perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is a critical issue because it is related to power conversion efficiency and stability. Although parameters affecting the hysteresis have been already reported and reviewed, little investigation is reported on scan-direction-dependent J-V curves depending on perovskite composition. This review investigates J-V hysteric behaviors depending on perovskite composition in normal mesoscopic and planar structure. In addition, met
We have synthesized a highly efficient organic dye for a dye-sensitized solar cell; the overall solar-to-energy conversion efficiency was 9.1% at AM 1.5 illumination (100 mW cm(-2)): short-circuit current density (J(sc)) = 18.1 mA cm(-2), open circuit photovoltage (V(oc)) = 743 mV and fill factor (ff) = 0.675.
The structure and photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2 films deposited onto SnO2 conducting glass from the ambient hydrolysis of TiCl4 and annealed at temperatures ranging from 100 to 500 °C were studied by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), intensity-modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS), and intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) measurements. Analysis of the XRD and Raman spectra shows that TiCl4-produced TiO2 films have
