Rumi Ueha教授の研究室では、加齢に伴う嗅覚機能低下の細胞・分子機構に注目し、嗅感覚神経細胞の再生メカニズムや、神経栄養因子・炎症関連因子の発現変化を解明しています。特に、老化に伴う嗅上皮の構造的・機能的変化と、それに関連する幹細胞系の機能低下を、マウスモデルを用いて詳細に解析しています。また、SARS-CoV-2感染リスクを考慮した嚥下療法の安全性や、嚥下障害を有する患者に対する治療戦略の最適化についても、臨床的・実験的アプローチを併用して研究を進めています。
