森下良一教授の研究室は、血管疾患の発症メカニズムに注目し、特に血管再生や動脈硬化の予防を目的とした遺伝子・タンパク質標的療法の開発を主な研究テーマとしています。特に、細胞周期制御因子(E2F、cdk2、PCNA)を標的にしたアンチセンスオリゴデオキシリボ核酸や、ヘパトサイト成長因子(HGF)を用いた遺伝子治療の臨床的応用を進めており、バルーン傷害後の内膜増殖を抑制する新規治療戦略の確立を目指しています。また、加齢に伴う慢性炎症(インフレイジング)と血管機能障害の関連についても解明を進めています。
