Professor S.S. Shinde's research lab specializes in the design and development of advanced nanomaterials for sustainable energy applications, with a primary focus on electrocatalysts for metal-air batteries and hydrogen evolution reactions. The lab emphasizes scalable synthesis of carbon-based and metal oxide nanostructures—such as doped carbon nitrides, metal-organic frameworks, and hematite-based materials—engineered for high surface area, stability, and bifunctional electrocatalytic activity. Key research directions include optimizing oxygen reduction and evolution reactions (ORR/OER) and enhancing photocatalytic performance under visible light for environmental remediation and solar energy conversion.

Advanced reversible aqueous and flexible ZABs were achieved with 3D dual-linked hexaiminobenzene MOFs.
Rational design of efficient and durable bifunctional oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is critical for rechargeable metal-air batteries. Here, we developed a facile strategy for fabricating three-dimensional phosphorus and sulfur codoped carbon nitride sponges sandwiched with carbon nanocrystals (P,S-CNS). These materials exhibited high surface area and superior ORR and OER bifunctional catalytic activities than those of Pt/C and RuO2</sub
The future of electrochemical energy storage spotlights on the designed formation of highly efficient and robust bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts that facilitate advanced rechargeable metal-air batteries. We introduce a scalable facile strategy for the construction of a hierarchical three-dimensional sulfur-modulated holey C2N aerogels (S-C2NA) as bifunctional catalysts for Zn-air and Li-O2 batteries. The S-C2NA exhibited ultrahigh surface area (∼1
The physical properties and photoelectrochemical characterization of aluminium doped hematite α-Fe2O3, synthesized by spray pyrolysis, have been investigated in regard to solar energy conversion. Stable Al-doped iron (III) oxide thin films synthesized by a spray pyrolysis technique reveals an oxygen deficiency, and the oxide exhibits n-type conductivity confirmed by anodic photocurrent generation. The preparative parameters have been optimized to obtain good quality thin films which are uniform
Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution using non-precious metals or metal-free catalysts is critically necessary because platinum-based electrocatalysts are greatly limited in scalable commercialization of hydrogen generation due to their high cost.
Abstract This article provides the current research activities that concentrate on the role of hydroxyl radicals in heterogeneous photocatalysis by transition metal oxides for different nanostructures. We devote most attention to Al-based Fe2O3 nanostructures that have been synthesized using chemical methods. The visible light photocatalytic activity of nanocrystalline pure and Al-based Fe2O3 photocatalysts for degradation of Salicylic acid, 4-Cholorphenol, and Acid orange 7 (Azo dye) is reporte
Abstract The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is one of the key steps in clean and efficient energy conversion techniques; however, the mass production of current HER devices is hampered by several shortcomings, which include kinetically sluggish processes, stability, and the use of expensive catalysts. In this work we report the facile synthesis of metal‐free hybrids by integrating graphitic carbon nitride (g‐C 3 N 4 ) with nitrogen‐ and phosphorus‐doped nanoporous graphene sheets. A phosphoru
Indium doped zinc oxide (IZO) thin films are grown onto Corning glass substrates using the spray pyrolysis technique. The effect of doping concentration on the structural, electrical and optical properties of IZO thin films is studied. X-ray diffraction studies show a change in preferential orientation from the (0 0 2) to the (1 0 1) crystal planes with increase in indium doping concentration. Scanning electron microscopy studies show polycrystalline morphology of the films. Based on the Hall-ef
Solid-state batteries (SSBs) have received significant attention due to their high energy density, reversible cycle life, and safe operations relative to commercial Li-ion batteries using flammable liquid electrolytes. This review presents the fundamentals, structures, thermodynamics, chemistries, and electrochemical kinetics of desirable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) required to meet the practical requirements of reversible anodes.
