We describe the fabrication of elliptical Au nanodisk arrays as a localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensing substrate for clinical immunoassay via thermal nanoimprint lithography (NIL) and enhancement in the sensitivity of the detection of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) using the precipitation of 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl phosphate p-toluidine/nitro blue tetrazolium (BCIP/NBT), catalyzed by alkaline phosphatase. Au nanodisks were fabricated on glass through an unconventional tilte
This review demonstrates directional photofluidization lithography (DPL), which makes it possible to fabricate a generic and sophisticated micro/nanoarchitecture that would be difficult or impossible to attain with other methods. In particular, DPL differs from many of the existing micro/nanofabrication methods in that the post-treatment (i.e., photofluidization), after the preliminary fabrication process of the original micro/nanostructures, plays a pivotal role in the various micro/nanostructu
Optical components made fully or partially from reconfigurable, stimuli-responsive, soft solids or fluids-collectively referred to as soft photonics-are poised to form the platform for tunable optical devices with unprecedented functionality and performance characteristics. Currently, however, soft solid and fluid material systems still represent an underutilized class of materials in the optical engineers' toolbox. This is in part due to challenges in fabrication, integration, and structural co
Radiative cooling has proven to be a powerful strategy for sustainable thermal management. Nanophotonic structures enabling broadband reflection lead to minimization of sunlight absorption, which has brought nighttime-limited radiative cooling into daytime applications. However, this broadband reflection strategy in turn restricts the accessible colorization of radiative coolers to white or neutral, consequently hindering their practical applications, particularly for aesthetic purposes. With a
The use of wrinkling provides a generic route to stretchable metamaterials, with unprecedented terahertz tunability. The wrinkled metamaterial can be stretched reversibly up to 52.5%; the structural integrity can be maintained during at least 100 stretching/relaxing cycles. Importantly, the wrinkling of meta-atoms offers a deterministic way to achieve controlled broadening of electrical resonance.
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is categorized into nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and has emerged as a risk factor for more critical clinical conditions. However, the underlying mechanisms of NAFLD pathogenesis are not fully understood. In this study, expression of proteins associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, apoptosis and autophagy were analyzed in normal, NAFL and NASH human livers by western blotting. Levels of some ER stress-t
Mechanical failure along a conductive pathway can cause unexpected shutdown of an electronic devices, ultimately limiting the device lifetime. To address this problem, various systems to realize healable electrical conductors have been proposed; however, rapid, noninvasive, and on‐demand healing, factors that are all synergistically required, especially for wearable device applications, still remains challenging. Here, a light‐powered healable electrical conductor (conceptualized as photofluidic
Highly ordered metallic nanostructures have attracted an increasing interest in nanoscale electronics, photonics, and spectroscopic imaging. However, methods typically used for fabricating metallic nanostructures, such as direct writing and template-based nanolithography, have low throughput and are, moreover, limited to specific fabricated shapes such as holes, lines, and prisms, respectively. Herein, we demonstrate directional photofluidization lithography (DPL) as a new method to address the
The fabrication of micro- and nanostructures is one of the cornerstones of current materials science and technology. There is a strong interest in processing methods capable of manufacturing engineered complex structures on a large area. A method that is gaining a growing attention in this context is based on surface reshaping of photosensitive materials, such as certain azobenzene derivatives by way of a process of light-induced mass migration, also described as "athermal photofluidization". He
Plasmonic polymers consisting of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) are able to squeeze light into the deep-subwavelength space and transfer along a highly confined nanoscale path in long range. DNA nanotechnology, particularly benefiting from the molecular programmability of DNA origami, has provided otherwise nearly impossible platforms for constructing plasmonic nanoparticle polymers with designer configurations and nanoscale gaps. Here, we design and assemble a DNA origami hashtag tile that is abl
Nanoscale manipulation of magnetic fields has been a long-term pursuit in plasmonics and metamaterials, as it can enable a range of appealing optical properties, such as high-sensitivity circular dichroism, directional scattering, and low-refractive-index materials. Inspired by the natural magnetism of aromatic molecules, the cyclic ring cluster of plasmonic nanoparticles (NPs) has been suggested as a promising architecture with induced unnatural magnetism, especially at visible frequencies. How
Abstract DNA origami can provide programmed information to guide the self‐assembly of gold nanospheres (Au NSs) into higher‐order supracolloids. Molecularly precise and truly 2D/3D integration of Au NSs is possible using DNA origami‐enabled assembly, and the resulting assemblies have potential applications in plasmonics and metamaterials. However, the relatively small size (<60 nm) and randomly faceted Au NSs that have been used thus far in DNA origami‐enabled assembly have limited their nano
