Shigekazu Nagata教授の研究室は、細胞死と免疫調節の分子機構に焦点を当てており、特にアポトーシスの制御とその免疫系における役割を解明しています。特に、不要な細胞を効率的に取り込む「オートファージー的機構」や、リン脂質の不均一分布がアポトーシスに与える影響を、分子生物学的・遺伝子スクリーニング的手法を用いて解明しています。また、Fas/FasL系やMFG-E8、Xkr8、ATP11Cなどの分子が、自己免疫疾患やがんの発症に与える影響についても研究を進めています。
