Shigeru Tsunoda教授の研究室は、食道がんの病態解明と治療戦略の確立を主眼としており、特にABC transporterや神経栄養因子の異所的発現ががんの進行や予後に関与するメカニズムを解析しています。特にABCg2陽性細胞の腫瘍内存在が腫瘍の悪性度に与える影響や、NGF-TrkA自己分泌ループの臨床的意義を解明しています。また、手術後の合併症リスクを予測するための手術指標の確立や、内視鏡的評価の意義についても臨床的意義の高い研究を展開しています。

The absolute presence of ABCG2-positive cells in the tumor is a single independent prognostic factor, suggesting the underlying roles in malignant characteristics of ESCC other than drug resistance.
