Kawabata教授の研究室は、溶血性レンサ球菌(Group A Streptococcus)の病原性機構に焦点を当て、細菌の宿主接着・侵入機構や免疫逃避機構の解明を進めています。特に、線溶性フィブロネクチン結合タンパク質(Fba、FbaB)の同定や、プロテアーゼSpeBによる上皮バリアー破壊のメカニズム、およびC3bの分解による補因子逃避の機構を解明しています。これらの研究は、新たなワクチン標的の同定や、重篤な感染症の病態理解に貢献しています。

The purpose of this study was to examine the suitability of fibronectin-binding protein FBP54 as a putative vaccine for Streptococcus pyogenes infections. When the distribution of the fbp54 gene among the clinical isolates representing various M serotypes was tested by PCR and Southern blot assays, it was found that all of the strains possess this gene.
