中島慎一郎教授の研究室は、てんかんやうつ病、統合失調症を代表とする精神疾患の神経生理学的メカニズムを、非侵襲的脳刺激法(TMS)と脳波計測(EEG)を組み合わせた先進的アプローチで解明しています。特に、皮膚の興奮性・抑制性のバランス(E/Iバランス)と神経可塑性の観点から、精神疾患の病態を神経回路レベルで解明することを目的としています。また、認知症の予防に寄与する脳予備能(brain reserve)のメカニズムについても教育歴の影響を検証しており、神経科学と臨床医学の融合的研究を推進しています。
