Ueno教授の研究室は、視細胞および網膜内側側背縁核(VMH)におけるプロトンチャネルの機能解析を通じて、神経細胞の酸化ストレス応答や神経伝達メカニズムを解明しています。特に、網膜の光刺激に対する電気視細胞反応(ERG)の変化や、網膜手術後の内層網膜機能の微細な障害を評価するための客観的指標(PhNR)の応用にも注力しています。また、磁場が生物学的反応や燃焼反応に与える影響を、生体模倣的プロセスの理解を目的として実験的に探求しています。

Effects of magnetic fields on combustion and gas-flow were studied. Methane, propane and hydrogen gases were burned, and flames of these gases were exposed to gradient magnetic fields up to 1.6 T and 220 T/m. These results suggest that there are some functional impairments in the inner retina after macular hole surgery, even though the patients did not show any reduction on subjective visual tests. The PhNR can be a useful clinical test to assess the inner retinal function objectively, before and after vitreoretinal surgery.
