南谷章太教授の研究室は、発達・行動神経科学とエピジェネティクスを融合した研究を展開しています。特に、乳児の臭覚に伴う母親の脳活動(前頭前野の血流変化)や、児童虐待がオキシトシン遺伝子のメチル化に与える影響を、脳画像・唾液由来DNAメチル化解析を用いて解明しています。また、パンデミック下における親の育児ストレスの国別比較や、母乳育児とオキシトシンの関連性についても、神経内分泌と行動の関連を解明する研究が進められています。
