城野章造教授の研究室では、海馬の機能的・構造的多様性に注目し、神経回路の可塑性やニューロンの分布・マッピングの定量的解析を主軸としています。特に、GABA作動性ニューロンの長距離投射、神経新生、ミクログリアの局所的分布、およびPNNとパルバブインの関係といった神経回路の制御機構を、立体的・定量的アプローチ(ステレオロジー、画像解析)を用いて解明しています。海馬の背腹軸・トランスバース軸に沿った領域特異的ニューロン分布の解明は、学習・記憶・情動の神経基盤を理解する上で極めて重要です。
