Kobayashi教授の研究室は、免疫細胞の機能制御に深く関与する細胞内シグナル伝達分子および脂肪酸結合タンパク質の機能解明を柱としています。特にT細胞やpDC、NK細胞におけるIκB家族やFABP(Fatty acid-binding protein)の機能が、自己免疫疾患やがん、アレルギー性炎症の発症メカニズムにどのように寄与するかを分子レベルで解明しています。また、脂質代謝と免疫応答のクロスロードを解き明かすことで、新たな治療標的の発見を目指しています。
