We study an inflationary scenario in supergravity model with a gauge kinetic function. We find exact anisotropic power-law inflationary solutions when both the potential function for an inflaton and the gauge kinetic function are exponential type. The dynamical system analysis tells us that the anisotropic power-law inflation is an attractor for a large parameter region.
We study an inflationary scenario with a vector impurity. We show that the universe undergoes anisotropic inflationary expansion due to a preferred direction determined by the vector. Using the slow-roll approximation, we find a formula to determine anisotropy of the inflationary universe. We discuss possible observable predictions of this scenario. In particular, it is stressed that primordial gravitational waves can be induced from curvature perturbations. Hence, even in low scale inflation, a
The low energy effective theory for the Randall-Sundrum two-brane system is investigated with an emphasis on the role of the nonlinear radion in the brane world. The equations of motion in the bulk are solved using a low energy expansion method. This allows us, through the junction conditions, to deduce the effective equations of motion for gravity on the brane. It is shown that the gravity on the brane world is described by a quasi-scalar-tensor theory with a specific coupling function $\ensure
We explore the impact of Lorentz violation on the inflationary scenario. More precisely, we study the inflationary scenario in the scalar-vector-tensor theory where the Lorentz violating vector is constrained to be unit and timelike. It turns out that the Lorentz violating vector affects the dynamics of the chaotic inflationary model and divides the inflationary stage into two parts: the Lorentz violating stage and the standard slow roll stage. We show that the universe is expanding as a de Sitt
A low energy iteration scheme to study nonlinear gravity in the brane world is developed. As a result, we obtain the brane world effective action at low energies. The relation between the geometrical approach and the approach using the AdS/CFT correspondence is also clarified. In particular, we find generalized dark radiation as homogeneous solutions in our iteration scheme. Moreover, the precise correspondence between the bulk geometry and the brane effective action is established, which gives
Behind the obvious goal of finding a consistent quantum theory of gravity lingers a question, namely if gravity is ``quantized'' at all. The authors work out in detail a recent proposal to detect quantum noise induced by gravitons in LIGO, and add another example, decoherence of massive particles induced by gravitons. Both concepts would prove the existence of quantum gravity and gravitons, the latter potentially in a tabletop experiment.
We consider the entanglement entropy of a free massive scalar field in the one parameter family of α-vacua in de Sitter space by using a method developed by Maldacena and Pimentel. An α-vacuum can be thought of as a state filled with particles from the point of view of the Bunch-Davies vacuum. Of all the α-vacua we find that the entanglement entropy takes the minimal value in the Bunch-Davies solution. We also calculate the asymptotic value of the Rényi entropy and find that it increases as α in
We study quantum discord between two free modes of a massive scalar field in a maximally entangled state in de Sitter space. We introduce two observers, one in a global chart and the other in an open chart of de Sitter space, and the observers determine the quantum discord created by each detecting one of the modes. This situation is analogous to the relationship between an observer in a Minkowski chart and another in one of the two Rindler charts in flat space. We find that the state becomes le
We study a codimension 2 braneworld in the Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We carefully examine the structure of possible singularities in the system which characterize the braneworld through matching conditions. Consequently, we find that the thickness of the brane can be incorporated as the distributional source, which we dub quasi-thickness. On the basis of our formalism, we analyze the linearized gravity and show the conventional Einstein gravity can be recovered on the brane. In the nonlinea
We investigate the effect of entanglement between two causally separated open charts in de Sitter space on the spectrum of vacuum fluctuations. We consider a free massive scalar field, and construct the reduced density matrix by tracing out the vacuum state for one of the open charts, as recently derived by Maldacena and Pimentel. We formulate the mean-square vacuum fluctuations by using the reduced density matrix and show that the scale invariant spectrum of massless scalar field is realized on
We study the violation of Bell-Mermin-Klyshko (BMK) inequalities in initial quantum states of scalar fields in inflation. We show that the Bell inequality is maximally violated by the Bunch-Davies vacuum which is a two-mode squeezed state of a scalar field. However, we find that the violation of the BMK inequalities does not increase with the number of modes to measure. We then consider a non-Bunch-Davies vacuum expressed by a four-mode squeezed state of two scalar fields. Remarkably, we find th
We consider the possible detection of nonclassicality of primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) by applying Hanbury-Brown--Twiss (HBT) interferometry to cosmology. We characterize the nonclassicality of PGWs in terms of sub-Poissonian statistics that can be measured by the HBT interferometry. We show that the presence of classical sources during inflation makes it possible to detect nonclassical PGWs with the HBT interferometry. We present two examples that realize the classical sources during in
We explore quantum entanglement between two causally disconnected regions in the multiverse. We first consider a free massive scalar field, and compute the entanglement negativity between two causally separated open charts in de Sitter space. The qualitative feature of it turns out to be in agreement with that of the entanglement entropy. We then introduce two observers who determine the entanglement between two causally disconnected de Sitter spaces. When one of the observers remains constraine
We explore the cosmological implications of quantum entanglement between two causally disconnected universes in the multiverse. We first consider two causally separated de Sitter spaces with a state which is initially entangled. We derive the reduced density matrix of our universe and compute the spectrum of vacuum fluctuations. We then consider the same system with an initially non-entangled state. We find that due to quantum interference scale dependent modulations may enter the spectrum for t
The nonclassicality of primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) is characterized in terms of sub-Poissonian graviton statistics. The sub-Poissonian statistics are realized when quantum states are squeezed coherent states. In the presence of matter fields, the Universe experiences the squeezed coherent state during inflation. The condition to realize the sub-Poissonian graviton statistics is translated into the frequency range of gravitational waves. If the initial state is the Bunch-Davies vacuum,
