Professor Sujin Yang's research lab focuses on the intersection of cognitive neuroscience, psychiatric disorders, and behavioral health, with a particular emphasis on executive functioning in bilingual children, the impact of digital media on adolescent body image, and the cognitive and psychiatric effects of antipsychotic medications. The lab investigates how neurocognitive functions such as attention, memory, and executive control relate to mental health outcomes, including medication adherence and symptom profiles in schizophrenia. It also explores the mechanisms linking social media use to psychological distress through cognitive-affective pathways. The lab's work bridges developmental psychology, clinical psychiatry, and health behavior research.

This study investigated whether early especially efficient utilization of executive functioning in young bilinguals would transcend potential cultural benefits. To dissociate potential cultural effects from bilingualism, four-year-old U.S. Korean–English bilingual children were compared to three monolingual groups – English and Korean monolinguals in the U.S.A. and another Korean monolingual group, in Korea. Overall, bilinguals were most accurate and fastest among all groups. The bilingual advan
We examined the predictive relations of social media and smartphone use to body esteem in female adolescents and the mechanism that underlies these relations. As a result of frequent social media and smartphone use, adolescents are continually exposed to appearance-related media content. This likely reinforces a thin ideal and fosters appearance-based comparison and increases fear of external evaluation. Hence, we investigated a cognitive-affective framework in which the associations of social m
Patients with schizophrenia who switched from their previous antipsychotics to aripiprazole demonstrated improvements in cognitive function, psychotic symptoms, social function, attitude toward medication, and metabolic abnormalities.

Our findings indicate that a patient's attitude toward medication is associated with neurocognitive function. Specifically, verbal learning memory, executive functioning, and sustained attention were associated with attitude toward medication.
Atypical antipsychotics have been reported to induce or exacerbate obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS) in patients with schizophrenia. We report the development of de novo obsession induced by sequential treatment with risperidone, aripiprazole, and ziprasidone, which have an antagonist effect on serotonin 5-HT(2A) receptors in a patient with schizophrenia. The obsession was repeatedly improved after switching the atypical antipsychotics to amisulpride, a selective D(2) and D(3) receptor antagon
In South Korean children, disturbed eating attitudes and behaviors were associated with various psychological and sociocultural factors; some gender-related differences are also evident.
Different environmental and psychological factors predicted different aspects of problematic Internet experiences and computer-using time. This knowledge is important for framing public health interventions to educate adolescents about, and prevent, internet-derived problems.
This study evaluated the performance of generative adversarial network (GAN)-synthesized periapical images for classifying C-shaped root canals, which are challenging to diagnose because of their complex morphology. GANs have emerged as a promising technique for generating realistic images, offering a potential solution for data augmentation in scenarios with limited training datasets. Periapical images were synthesized using the StyleGAN2-ADA framework, and their quality was evaluated based on
Previous studies suggest that inconsistent parenting leads to undesired consequences, such as a child's defiant reactance or parent-child conflicts. In light of this, we examined whether mothers' inconsistent smartphone mediation strategies would influence their children's problematic smartphone use during early childhood. Furthermore, given that harsh parenting often escalates a child's behavioral problems, we focused on parent-child conflict resolution tactics as moderators. One hundred fifty-
