Professor Sun Och Yoon's research lab focuses on molecular oncology and cancer biology, with a strong emphasis on understanding the pathogenesis, prognostic markers, and therapeutic targets in hematologic and gastrointestinal malignancies. The lab investigates non-coding RNAs, such as microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs (e.g., HOTAIR), in tumor progression, metastasis, and treatment resistance, particularly in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and gastric cancer. It also explores the tumor microenvironment, especially the role of residual disease and stromal signaling post-surgery, to identify early relapse predictors. Additionally, the lab examines the impact of lifestyle and nutraceutical interventions—like soy isoflavones and exercise—on metabolic and oxidative stress markers in cancer-preventive contexts.
