Professor Tai Gyu Lee's research lab specializes in environmental materials and catalytic processes for air pollution control, with a primary focus on the development and application of functional sorbents for mercury capture and oxidation. The lab investigates the fundamental mechanisms of gas-phase mercury (Hg⁰) oxidation on metal oxide nanoparticles—particularly titania (TiO₂)—under UV irradiation, exploring reaction kinetics, surface reactivity, and the influence of co-pollutants like SO₂. A key research direction involves in situ generation of high-surface-area sorbent particles for efficient and practical mercury removal from flue gases. The lab also examines the role of photocatalysis and material properties in enhancing capture efficiency, contributing to cleaner energy and industrial emission control technologies.

The P68 protein kinase is a serine/threonine kinase induced by interferon treatment and activated by double-stranded RNAs (dsRNAs).
