Taizen Nakase教授の研究室は、脳卒中におけるグリア細胞の神経保護的役割に注目し、特にアストロサイトのギャップジャンクション(Connexin43)とミトコンドリア関連タンパク質(UCP2/UCP5)の機能解明を進めています。脳虚血状態におけるグリア細胞のネットワーク形成とシグナル伝達の役割、ならびに神経保護・損傷の両面での影響を、遺伝子欠損マウスモデルや臨床脳標本を用いて解析しています。特に、アストロサイトのギャップジャンクションが神経細胞死を抑制するメカニズムの解明が主な研究テーマです。
