Impaired cognitive domains of the speed of mental processes and memory were associated with WMHs and subcortical atrophy. Degenerative changes in the cerebral small vessels may constitute predictive factors for the rate of cognitive dysfunction in elderly diabetic patients.
Multiple factors including BPSD, impaired life function and geriatric syndrome were cognitive stage-dependently associated with CB. Preventive treatment of BPSD and comorbidity, and effective assistance for IADL deficits could contribute to alleviation of CB.
We examined the nutritional status and its association with behavioral psychiatric symptoms of dementia (BPSD) among 741 memory clinic patients (normal cognition (NC), 152; mild cognitive impairment (MCI), 271; early-stage Alzheimer disease (AD), 318). Nutritional status and BPSD were assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short-Form (MNA-SF) and the Dementia Behavior Disturbance Scale (DBD), respectively. Compared to subjects with NC, more subjects with MCI and early-stage AD were at ri
Type 2 diabetes mellitus accelerates loss of muscle mass and strength. Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) also show these conditions, even in the early stages of AD. The mechanism linking glucose management with these muscle changes has not been elucidated but has implications for clarifying these associations and developing preventive strategies to maintain functional capacity. This study included 69 type 2 diabetes patients with a diagnosis of cognitive impairment (<i>n</i> = 32) and patie
There was an age-associated increase in the prevalence of abdominal obesity and insulin resistance in elderly diabetic Japanese subjects, with a clear relationship between waist circumference and insulin resistance. However, insulin resistance was elevated not only in cases with but also in those without abdominal obesity if accompanied by clustering of metabolic disorders. The AHA/NHLBI definition of MetS proved to be the most useful to predict cardiovascular disease in the diabetic elderly.
This trial evaluated the efficacy of multidomain intervention in individuals with MCI. The trial did not show a significant difference in preplanned cognitive outcomes. Interventions had positive effects on a wide range of secondary health outcomes. Those with adequate adherence or high risk of dementia benefited from interventions.
ARM during SN biopsy can identify the group of patients who are at high risk for developing lymphedema. More risk-focused guidance should be used for these patients.
The goal of dementia treatment is to improve the quality of life for both people with dementia and their families. Rehabilitation as a non-pharmacological approach, coordinated with pharmacological treatment, aims to allow patients to live better by slowing the progression, and relieving the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. In dementia, the manifestation of symptoms caused by neurological impairment is modified by various factors; thus, multidimensional assessment and approache
