ABSTRACT. A novel combination of adaptations resulting from sperm competition is demonstrated for the tree cricket Truljalia hibinonis (Matsumura) (Podoscirtinae: Gryllidae: Orthoptera). 87.5% of the semen of previous males is displaced onto the penis of the copulating male and is removed at the end of copulation. Semen thus removed is ingested during post‐copulatory oro‐genital grooming. No overt morphological adaptations for sperm removal were observed and, on the basis of anatomical evidence,
NNs performed slightly better than RTA and MRA in terms of prediction error. These findings may contribute to increasing the efficiency of patient-specific quality-assurance procedures.
Machine- and patient-specific quality assurance (QA) is essential to ensure the safety and accuracy of radiotherapy. QA methods have become complex, especially in high-precision radiotherapy such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), and various recommendations have been reported by AAPM Task Groups. With the widespread use of IMRT and VMAT, there is an emerging demand for increased operational efficiency. Artificial intelligence (AI) techno
The World Robot Challenge is an international competition for the social implementation of robots. Among them, the Partner Robot Challenge (Real Space) is a category that focuses on domestic service robots, competing to achieve simple tasks such as tidying a room, avoiding small obstacles, grasping a specified object from the shelf, and delivering an object to a waving person. In this category, we focused on the theme of ‘Keep Moving’ and worked on researching and developing technologies for obj
Respiratory gating radiotherapy is used to irradiate a local area and to reduce normal tissue toxicity. There are certain methods for the detection of tumor motions, for example, using internal markers or an external respiration signal. However, because some of these respiratory monitoring systems require special or expensive equipment, respiratory monitoring can usually be performed only in limited facilities. In this study, the feasibility of using an acceleration sensor for respiratory monito
The gimbal positional accuracy was not degraded by gantry motion. As in the case of a fixed port, the Vero4DRT system showed adequate accuracy of DTT conformal arc irradiation.
Approaching behavior of the potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella, to pheromone source was analyzed. The process of searching by walking was essential for effective finding of female. Searching by walking was characterized by rapid walking while wing fanning and frequent turning near pheromone source. This strategy seemed to be an efficient mechanism for locating females in their habitat. The male's flight or rapid walking while wing fanning, induced by (E, Z, Z)-4, 7, 10-tridecatrienyl ace
Factors releasing the copulation attempt in three phycitid moths, the Indiant meal moth Plodia interpunctella, the almond moth Cadra cautella, and the Mediterranean flour moth Anagasta kuehniella, were examined by using various kinds of models, including dried whole bodies, rolls of paper covered with scales, and flat surfaces covered with wings, under the presence of the sex pheromone. The presence of the scales was a releaser for the copulation attempt in phycitid moths. In addition, the geome
This feasibility study resulted in the development of an algorithm with the potential to mitigate plan complexity and improve the GPR for VMAT under minor leaf position modifications.
