Wataru Ando教授の研究室は、再生医療分野に焦点を当て、特に末梢骨髄由来の間葉系幹細胞を用いた組織工学的補綴体(TEC)の構築とその生体適合性・機械的特性の解明を主な研究テーマとしています。特に、関節軟骨の再生を目的とした幹細胞由来の人工軟骨の作製や、変性疾患に伴う腱損傷(例:オキサローゼ症候群関連腱断裂)の治療法開発にも取り組んでいます。また、人工股関節における金属イオン放出と合併症の関連性についても臨床的・機械的アプローチで研究を進めています。

The purpose of this study was to characterize a tissue-engineered construct (TEC) generated with human synovial mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). MSCs were cultured in medium with ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (Asc-2P) and were subsequently detached from the substratum. We report the case of a 67-year-old man with ochronosis who had bilateral Achilles tendon ruptures. We reconstructed the Achilles tendon using pull-out wiring for the right side and an anchoring system for the left side, and reinforced the repair site using the peroneus brevis tendon for both sides.
