Professor Won Seok Chang's research lab specializes in neuromodulation and stereotactic radiosurgery, focusing on advanced image-guided interventions for neurological disorders. The lab investigates the clinical applications and technical optimization of MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) for conditions like essential tremor and brain metastases, while also exploring the neurophysiological mechanisms of pain through human sensory neuron studies. Our results demonstrate that MRgFUS thalamotomy is a safe, effective and less-invasive surgical method for treating medication-refractory ET. However, several issues must be resolved before clinical application of MRgFUS, including optimal patient selection and management of patients during treatment.
