Professor Yang Hyun Cho's research lab specializes in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular critical care, with a focus on advanced structural heart interventions and hemodynamic support in high-risk patients. The lab investigates innovative techniques such as prophylactic left atrial drainage during ECMO and percutaneous closure of atrial septal defects in patients with severe pulmonary hypertension. Their work emphasizes improving outcomes in critical cardiac care through early intervention and personalized management strategies.
Figures are computed from collected data and may differ slightly.
Prophylactic percutaneous transseptal left atrial (LA) drainage at ECMO initiation appeared to be associated with a lower early mortality rate and a higher likelihood of successful bridging to cardiac replacement therapy than therapeutic LHD to treat complications of left ventricular distension.
Our results suggest that the GPS as well as performance status, DM, and cortical thinning are associated with intravesical recurrence after RNU. Thus, more careful follow-up, coupled with postoperative intravesical therapy to avoid bladder recurrence, should be considered in these patients.
The aim of the study was to review our experience with atrial septal defect (ASD) closure with a fenestrated patch in patients with severe pulmonary hypertension. Between July 2004 and February 2009, 16 patients with isolated ASD underwent closure with a fenestrated patch. All patients had a secundum type ASD and severe pulmonary hypertension. Patients ranged in age from 6 to 57 years (mean ± SD, 34.9 ± 13.5 years). The follow-up period was 9 to 59 months (mean, 34.5 ± 13.1 months). The ranges o
Despite the rapid development of therapeutic modalities for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) over the past decade to include a number of targeted antiangiogenic therapies and traditional immunotherapy, such as high-dose interleukin-2 and interferon-α, mRCC continues to be associated with poor prognosis. Currently, several novel immunotherapy agents, such as cancer vaccines, adoptive cell therapy, and checkpoint inhibitors, such as programmed cell death-1 (PD-1 present on T cells), one of i
Unfractionated heparin (UFH) is currently the standard anticoagulant used in extracorporeal life support (ECLS). However, severe thrombocytopenia occurs frequently during ECLS use and it may be difficult to determine whether this represents heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) or not. In this case, UFH cannot be continued. Because a confirmatory laboratory test requires time, argatroban is empirically used if HIT is suspected. However, many patients are not found to have HIT. In non-HIT patien
We report a case of a nonunited sixth rib in a patient with multiple rib fractures who underwent internal fixation using a wire and Judet strut 3 times. During the following 3 years, the patient continued to complain of pain and instability. At surgery, a pseudarthrosis between the ends of the sixth rib was excised. A longitudinal gutter crossing the fracture site was fashioned and splinted with an inlay block of cancellous bone grafted from the iliac crest; stabilization was accomplished with a
Although the number of cancer patients admitted to the intensive care unit is increasing, the data on the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in patients with malignancy are limited. We applied extracorporeal membrane oxygenation to carefully selected patients with active hematologic malignancy or nonhematologic malignancy who experienced respiratory or cardiac failure despite maximal conventional therapy. Patients with active malignancy who underwent extracorporeal membrane oxygenation i
