The rapid development of infrastructure imposes high requirements on the performances of building materials especially on strength and ductility. The combination of high tensile strain capacity (>2%) and high strength (>80 MPa) to produce high strength engineered cementitious composites (HS-ECC) can be regarded as a potential and competitive option for structural application. The present paper comprehensively reviews some of the most important properties of HS-ECC from material scale to structur
Systematical research was implemented to explore the impacts of fiber reinforcement index VfLf/df (i.e., the product of fiber volume Vf and fiber aspect ratio Lf/df) on the energy dissipation characteristics including strain energy density and fracture energy, of polyethylene fiber-reinforced engineered cementitious composites (PE-ECC) with compressive strength varying from normal to high. Six VfLf/df values (i.e., 5, 7.5, 9, 10, 15, and 18) and five water/binder ratios (i.e., 0.14, 0.16, 0.18,
Biomaterial-associated bacterial infection is one of the major causes of implant failure. The treatment of such an implant infection typically requires the elimination of bacteria and acceleration of tissue regeneration around implants simultaneously. To address this issue, an ideal implanted material should have the dual functions of bacterial infection therapy and tissue regeneration at the same time. Herein, an enzyme-responsive nanoplatform was fabricated in order to treat implant-associated
This paper investigates the efficiency of acoustic emission (AE) technique for monitoring and assessing the bond-slip behavior and damage characteristics of deformed rebar embedded in hybrid fiber reinforced engineered cementitious composites (ECC). A series of pull-out tests were conducted on 48 prism samples with variable rebar diameters (14 mm, 20 mm, and 25 mm), embedded length (3d, 4d and 5d), and cover thickness (2.5d, 4d, 5d and 6d). Two AE sensors, attached on ECC surface and rebar surfa
Adding short steel fibers into slag-based geopolymer mortar and concrete is an effective method to enhance their mechanical properties. The fracture properties of steel fiber-reinforced slag-based geopolymer concrete/mortar (SGC/SGM) and unreinforced control samples were compared through three-point bending (TPB) tests. The influences of steel fiber volume contents (1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0%) on the fracture properties of SGC and SGM were studied. Load-midspan deflection (<i>P-δ</i>) curves and load-c
