Professor Yeo-Chang Youn's research lab focuses on the sustainable management of forest resources and ecosystem services, with a strong emphasis on socio-ecological systems, community-based forest governance, and policy-oriented environmental decision-making. The lab investigates the drivers of forest degradation, particularly related to non-timber forest product extraction and logging policies, while exploring public preferences for ecosystem services in urban and rural contexts across East Asia. Key research directions include the sustainability of traditional forest commons, the impact of policy changes on forest-dependent communities, and the application of choice experiments and Delphi methods to inform environmental governance.

The first public product of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is its Conceptual Framework.
