Professor Yeon-Ju Kim's research lab specializes in the development and application of biogenic nanoparticles using natural plant extracts, with a focus on sustainable and eco-friendly synthesis methods. The lab investigates the biomedical and cosmetic potential of plant-capped nanoparticles, particularly those derived from *Dendropanax morbifera* and *Panax ginseng*, exploring their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and multifunctional properties. Additionally, the lab examines the role of beneficial microbes in enhancing plant stress tolerance, particularly under salinity stress, contributing to agricultural sustainability. The integration of natural products with nanotechnology and environmental health is a central theme in their interdisciplinary research.

Organised cancer screening in Korea began in 1999. Operating system has been stabilised, target population have expanded and participation rate has been increased throughout its ten years. Here we present an overview of the organised cancer screening system in Korea and introduce the National Cancer Screening Programme including results from 2002 to 2008. Furthermore, we present the results of the Korea National Cancer Screening Survey, a survey that is representative of the population, from 200
Leisure time spent sitting, particularly watching television, may increase overall and cardiovascular mortality. Sitting at work or during transportation was not related to mortality.
Abstract: Dendropanax morbifera Léveille is an oriental medicinal plant that is traditionally used in folk medicine and grows in a specific region of South Korea. We aimed to enhance the utilization of D. morbifera medicinal plants for synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). D. morbifera leaf extract acted as both a reducing and a stabilizing agent that rapidly synthesized Dendropanax AgNPs (D-AgNPs) and Dendropanax AuNPs (D-AuNPs). The D-AgNPs and D-AuNPs were
Although the incidence of breast cancer in Asia remains lower than in North America, Western Europe, and Oceania, rates have been increasing rapidly during the past few decades, and Asian countries now account for 40% of breast cancer cases diagnosed worldwide. Breast cancer mortality has also increased among Asian women, in contrast to decreased mortality in Northern America, Western Europe, and Oceania. These increased rates are associated with higher prevalence of breast cancer risk factors (
Our study is the first report to provide evidence supporting that <i>P. ginseng</i> leaves-capped gold nanoparticles could be used as multifunctional ingredients in cosmetics.
<i>Panax ginseng</i> (C.A. Mayer) is a well-known medicinal plant used in traditional medicine in Korea that experiences serious salinity stress related to weather changes or incorrect fertilizer application. In ginseng, the use of <i>Paenibacillus yonginensis</i> DCY84T to improve salt stress tolerance has not been thoroughly explored. Therefore, we studied the role of <i>P. yonginensis</i> DCY84T under short-term and long-term salinity stress conditions in a controlled en
High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) has been suggested to be associated with breast cancer. However, the roles of HDL-C and hypertriglyceridemia on breast cancer still have been controversial. The goal of this study was to investigate the association between HDL-C with breast cancer risk, stratifying by menopausal status, and body mass index. The hormonal receptor status of breast has been proposed to modify the effect of HDL-C on breast cancer. Multicenter hospital-based case-control s
Lactation might have a crucial role in an extraordinary increase in breast cancer incidence in Korea, as the proportion of mothers who practised breast-feeding fell dramatically. This hospital-based case-control analysis has been carried out since 1997 to evaluate whether lactation is associated with breast cancer risk in Korean women. Among the eligible study participants, a total of 753 histologically confirmed incident cases and an equal number of controls were included in the analysis. The r
Circulating 25(OH)D3 and 25(OH)D were associated with a reduced risk of postmenopausal breast cancer among whites, but not in other ethnic groups, who reside in low latitude regions.
Traditional molecular methods have been used to examine bacterial communities in ginseng-cultivated soil samples in a time-dependent manner. Despite these efforts, our understanding of the bacterial community is still inadequate. Therefore, in this study, a high-throughput sequencing approach was employed to investigate bacterial diversity in various ginseng field soil samples over cultivation times of 2, 4, and 6 years in the first and second rounds of cultivation. We used non-cultivated soil s
We report a non-covalent loading of ginsenoside compound K (CK) onto our previously reported gold nanoparticles (DCY51T-AuCKNps) through one-pot biosynthesis using a probiotic Lactobacillus kimchicus DCY51T isolated from Korean kimchi. The ginsenoside-loaded gold nanoparticles were characterized by various analytical and spectroscopic techniques such as field emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, elemental mapping, X
Panax ginseng berry extract possess remarkable pharmacological effects on skin treatment such as anti-aging, antioxidant, promotor of collagen synthesis and alleviation against atopic dermatitis. In recent years, gold nanoparticles have gained much attention due to their extensive range of applications in particular in the field of drug delivery as a result of their biological compatibility and low toxicity. In a previous study, we designed and developed biocompatible gold and silver nanoparticl
Gastric cancer (GC) occurs in the gastric mucosa, and its high morbidity and mortality make it an international health crisis. Therefore, novel drugs are needed for its treatment. The use of natural products and their components in cancer treatments has shown promise. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of 8-paradol, a phenolic compound isolated from ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), on GC and determine its underlying mechanisms of action. In this study, repeated column chromat
