Professor Yeonsoo Jang's research lab focuses on patient self-management and health behavior interventions, particularly among individuals with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart failure. The lab investigates the role of self-efficacy, psychosocial factors, and theory-based interventions—especially those grounded in social cognitive theory—in improving health outcomes. A key focus is adapting evidence-based self-management programs for Korean cultural contexts and evaluating the effectiveness of eHealth technologies in managing conditions like NAFLD and chronic disease. The lab also explores how patient education and realistic illness perceptions can reduce psychological distress in cancer patients.

Although prior research in Western societies has revealed an association between self-efficacy and both self-management behaviours and better health status, little is known about the applicability of this association in Korean populations. We examined the differences in self-management behaviours and health status among three groups according to the level of self-efficacy (high, moderate and low). We used a descriptive and correlational design, and administrated a questionnaire to 322 Korean pat
For both conventional and self-adhesive dual-cure resin cements, insufficient light exposure (20 seconds of light-curing time) through thick ceramic restoration (4 mm thick) resulted in a DC even lower than that of self-curing alone.
Lifestyle modification interventions using eHealth technologies are significantly effective for BMI, AST, and ALT in patients with NAFLD. Future research should conduct interventions with larger sample sizes and evaluate whether these interventions have sustained benefits, and how we can make these eHealth methods most effective on a large scale.
Self-management programs based on social cognitive theory are useful to improve health care outcomes for patients with chronic diseases in Western culture. The purpose of this review is to identify and synthesize published research on the theory to enhance self-efficacy in disease management and examine its applicability to Korean culture regarding the learning strategies used. Ultimately, it was to identify the optimal use of these learning strategies to improve the self-efficacy of Korean pati
The three subdimensions of self-care behaviours were associated with different psychosocial factors, necessitating the development of tailored interventions and educational materials based on unique self-care behaviour patterns in patients with heart failure.
Healthcare providers might alleviate patients' psychological distress by improving unrealistic illness perceptions, alleviating physical symptoms, and providing clear and sufficient patient education in patients with cancer after diagnosis.
Fatigue is one of the most common patient-reported symptoms and can result in poor quality of life in patients with the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Little is known about the characteristics of fatigue in Korean patients with HBV. This study's purpose was to examine fatigue severity and explore health issues associated with fatigue in Korean patients with HBV. A mixed-methods research design was used. Quantitative data on fatigue severity were measured using the revised Piper Fatigue Scale (PFS) wit

Three themes and seven subthemes were identified. The themes were (1) facing unexpected obstacles, (2) finding my own path and (3) unmet support needs from healthcare providers. Subthemes included (1) ambiguity in changing lifestyle, (2) confusion caused by inconsistent information overload, (3) not knowing much about the liver nor NAFLD, (4) putting small plans into action every day, (5) getting help from family and friends as care partners, (6) needs for tailored medical help and (7) needs for
Fatigue is a major symptom among patients with Hepatitis B virus (HBV). However, the physiological mechanisms regarding mediate fatigue and the relationships between fatigue, cortisol and cytokines are unclear in patients with HBV. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between perceived fatigue, cortisol, and cytokines in Korean patients with HBV. The mean score for overall fatigue was moderate. In linear regression analyses, TNF-α was only significant as a predictor of fati
The results of the study revealed that the 22-item Korean version of the revised PFS is valid and reliable in Koreans with chronic hepatitis B. Further studies ascertaining the psychometric properties of the revised PFS need to be performed in Korean patients.
Uncertainty and unmet care needs constantly change in patients with cancer. However, there is a lack of information regarding the changing pattern of these variables. This study aimed to examine the changes in uncertainty and unmet care needs at diagnosis and after surgery among patients with gastric cancer. In total, 86 individuals completed a self-reported questionnaire. Data were collected twice - to measure uncertainty and unmet care needs at cancer diagnosis (T1), and after surgery (T2) - a
Systematic collaboration between healthcare providers and urologic specialists, enhancing staff competence, and patient-tailored intervention should be recommended to improve quality of care for patients with urologic issues in long-term care hospitals.
Implementation of culturally congruent education programs could be useful in preventing and managing HF. Further studies comparing self-care behaviors should be conducted in diverse racial populations.
The purpose of this study was to explore risk factors related to asthma prevalence among preschool and school-aged children using a representative national dataset from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) conducted from 2009-2011. We evaluated the demographic information, health status, household environment, socioeconomic status, and parents' health status of 3,542 children aged 4-12 years. A sex-stratified multivariate logistic regression was used to obtain adj
